I haven't mentioned it here yet but we finally bought a house! I've kept it on the down low because I have one or two readers who read what I say here and then comment on it elsewhere (yes DZ, I'm talking about you!).
At the very least, that is considered rude blog manners, it also could cause some grief as I'm writing about our House Hunting Adventures on Chicago Now and I'm posting in "delay mode". Most of the posts between now and when I out myself will be based on things that occurred last summer and fall.
I also want to keep as much detail a secret because those same blog-hoppers can figure out from a
few small bits of information my real identity. It's not a state secret who I am and it can probably be figured out quite easily. However, I don't see any reason to help those who might be too lazy to do rudimentary work.
However, I also want to write about the projects I'm working on at the house during run time. As I'm finding from my CN posts, writing about something that happened a few months ago is quite a bit more challenging than when it is fresh in your mind. So whenever this post publishes, keep in mind that I probably drafted it months before as we bought the house last year.

Whoa, congrats! Seriously.
But no way is that rude blog manners. Who in the world seeks to keep material they publish on the blog secret from visitors to a different site when he directly links to the blog in *every* post on the other site? (If you were remotely serious that you didn't want references to content on this blog, you only had to ask.) And I was only trying to drive traffic to your blog.
Anyway, congrats again and I'll be looking for my invite to the CC housewarming.
I appreciate the effort to drive traffic here, and I'm not certain what the etiquette is or how the court of public opinion views for cross blog commenting. I just would prefer more reader interaction through the comments *here* so I know someone is reading. Maybe the best thing would be general mentions on CC and specific questions here.
You missed our CC brunch at El Milagro that Milkster set up, I got to meet Sonies and Benjamon.
I know this houseReplyDelete
nice pick up icky!
let me know if you need any DIY tips
Well, you were attributing your delay in posting about it here to the propensity of certain readers to spill the beans elsewhere, not that certain readers would fail to comment here.ReplyDelete
My reluctance to comment was (1) I think it used to be more difficult wo creating some login, (2) not wanting to monitor another blog for responses to my comments.
Some stuff that would be interesting to read about: why you picked this over other houses; what were the tradeoffs you were willing to live with; what was the negotiation process; how your existing place impacted decision; what fixing up, if any, you plan to do.
Groove, don't think it's the house you're thinking of.
DZ, how do you get updates about this blog now?ReplyDelete
"Groove, don't think it's the house you're thinking of."ReplyDelete
i think you are right drove by there last night and it was not the same.
So consider the link icky posted on CC the house is different that the pic above.ReplyDelete
ikcy why ya gotta confuse a brother?
Groove, read it again. We almost bought that house that I linked to. Guess i should have been clearer.Delete
oops, you probably did phrase it that way. But as in groove fashion i shall not go back and check the facts just assume you are correct and wait for the wiki to be built.Delete
i still think i know the nabe you bought in, and if i am bored and drunk one day with my laptop open i will find the exact house.
peace and i am outtie 5000,
So, at this point who is left looking for a house on CC? HD is gone to the burbs...you've bought, I've bought, Groove has his place...ReplyDelete
Just anon, if he EVER can fulfill his UC2 or 3 or 8 criteria?
just anon if he can find his unicorn and sonies if he can do something about his underwater condo. I don't think he wants to go the reluctant landlord route so he will probably wait 1 to 2 more years before taking the plunge. By then he might even get over his aversion to the northwest side nabes.Delete
you assume I haven bought already and am still not playing up the old groove role to misdirect readers on the time lineDelete
